Weerribben: A romantic swamp

Weerribben: A romantic swamp

The word ‘swamp’ doesn’t sound very romantic, but the Weerribben are beautiful. And very Dutch! An area no smaller than 35 km² forming one of the biggest nature reserves in Europe.

Cluny Abbey

Cluny Abbey

Once upon a time… Founded in 910 by William I, Count of Auvergne, run by Abbot Berno and under the immediate authority of Pope Sergius III. Back then, everything went well. The power of Cluny soon went from a small abbey in France all the way from Scotland, Germany to Italy. But the decline went all to soon as well. Financial problems in the 12th century, further decline and the French Revolution, all that remained was sold in 1798 for 2,140,000 francs.

Visiting Cluny only makes you guess how times used to be…
A perfect story for a movie.

5 years later…

5 years later…

After 5 years I left my house at the Brigittenstraat… Together with my girlfriend Imke we now live in Wittevrouwen, Utrecht as well. It feels strange to leave this place after such a long time. Although we did live in Milan for about 7 month, now this is officialy not my home anymore…

qurifylaunch

I just finished another website, Qurify! Although it took me only two days, I think this is a very useful tool. Qurify! makes it very easy to so called “qurify messages” or in other words “convert text into a QR Code”. Check out this great and also funny tool at Qurify.com – Make your own QR Codes.

(update: The website has been translated and is now available in 7 languages! More languages to come!)

Mombasa, Kenya

After a heavy adventure in East-Africa, a couple of days in Mombasa to visit the city, the sea and White Sands Resort. Coming by train from Nairobi! We visited WhiteSands Resort… Very weird compared to what we had seen in Congo.

Visiting North-Kivu, Congo (DRC)

We made it to the border but after five flat tires we were stuck… On the most dangerous road of the region, as the UN commander-in-chief told us later, we had to hitch-hike our way to Butembo, in the middle of the night. Fortunately we made it! That week in Butembo and region, we experienced a lot and decided to fly back to Kampala… a lot quicker and safer.
